For the month of September, HeyDay salutes Robin Allen of Norman and Craig Turner of Moore.

 

INTERVIEW WITH ROBIN ALLEN

Where did you grow up?
Edwardsville, Il.

Where did you go to college?  Lewis & Clark in Alton, Il.

Do you have a family?
Husband Don, daughters Candice and Tara.

What is your current business?

Fancy That Cafe, Bakery and Takery.

How long have you done this?
5 years

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Meeting the people of Norman and pleasing them with good food.

What do you enjoy least about your job?The long hours involved.

What skills are needed to perform your job well?  Positive attitude.

What inspires you?
Having pride in my business and the desire to be successful..

Did/do you have a mentor?
My father. He's my sounding board and as an owner of his own business he understands the stress, hard work and long hours involved.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in their career? 
Learn everything you can in whatever job you have because some day you will use that skill somewhere in life.  

What one thing would you want someone new to this community to know about Norman/Moore?  Norman is a small town, but has a cosmopolitan feel to it. The University also facilitates a dynamic interaction with the diversity of people that live here.

INTERVIEW WITH CRAIG TURNER

Where did you grow up? Del City, Oklahoma

Where did you go to college? Obtained a Bachelors in Psychology from Oklahoma State University and a Masters in Banking from the University of Virginia.

Do you have a family? Wife, Katherine, who is Superintendent of Schools; son, Matthew; two daughters, Kacie and Mary; one grandchild, Emery Renee.

What is your current business? President of Exchange National Bank of Moore.  

How long have you done this? 21 Years.  

What do you enjoy most about your job? The opportunity to have a positive impact on the community of Moore as well as customers and employees.   

What do you enjoy least about your job? Working through "no win" loan situations.

What skills are needed to perform your job well? My Psychology background was good training in trying to communicate with and understand the motivation of customers and employees. 

What inspires you? Men or women in leadership that understand the needs of the people they serve and put those needs ahead of their own. 

Did/do you have a mentor? My father taught me to believe in myself.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in their career? There is no substitute for hard work. "The harder I work, the luckier I get" is not just a cute saying. 

What one thing would you want someone new to this community to know about Norman/Moore? The most gracious, hardworking neighbors you could ask for.
